Spend a Day at Windy Coulee Ranch
An Authentic Ranch Experience in Canada’s Native Grasslands
What is the Day on the Ranch?
Windy Coulee Ranch offers a guided Day on the Ranch Tour lasting approximately 5–8 hours, inviting guests to slow down and fully immerse themselves in ranch life, horses, and native grasslands.
All activities are guided by Heidi, your Ranch Manager, Carbon Cowgal, and Head Pony Wrangler, ensuring a safe, thoughtful, and engaging experience throughout the day.
Guests with a self-contained RV or rental are invited to Stay for the Stars, with free overnight camping at Windy Coulee’s private campsite included with your tour booking — the perfect way to end your day under some of Canada’s darkest skies.

What’s Included in Your Day on the Ranch
Visitors choose three or four curated experiences to shape a relaxed, full-day visit.
1 hour | Photos included
Enjoy your coffee while you relax in a comfy chair with happy, clucking chickens out and about in the ranch yard! After sharing treats (provided) with the hens, collect some eggs to enjoy later!
This is a relaxed opportunity for guests to orient themselves with the safety best practices needed during the Day on the Ranch, and plan for the rest of the days activities.
3 hours | Photos included
Bring your own lunch, groom and halter a pony and miniature mule, put on your hiking shoes and go for a 3.5 km (return) prairie walk to The Cottonwood Forest.
Along the way enjoy the views, native grassland, Beaver dam complexes, birds, native wildflowers, berries and more depending on the time of year.
Enjoy a leisurely lunch, have a snooze, pack up and hike back to the farm house, groom the ponies, give them a treat and food and relax for the rest of the afternoon.
1-2 hours | Photos included
Join Heidi for an early evening golden-hour walk to the beaver ponds.
Bring your favorite beverage, camera, notebook, or sketchpad. As the light turns golden, settle beside the creek and enjoy a quiet moment — beer with the beavers.
While sightings can’t be guaranteed, the setting, stillness, and good company always are.
3 hours | Photos included
This deeply grounding experience offers one-on-one time with a Windy Coulee Canadian Horse or Rescue Pony.
Guided by Heidi, you’ll learn best practices before haltering, leading, grooming, feeding, and simply being with your horse.
As you bond with your equine, you may notice your breathing and heart rate slow, your mind will focus on the present moment, you will soak in the sounds of the Ranch yard, and perhaps you will notice that you have been surrounded by the Horses Heart Energy Field.
1 hour | Two nights of free camping included
Windy Coulee sits within one of Canada’s most remarkable dark-sky regions, near Waterton Lakes National Park — an International Dark Sky Park. The coulee shelters the ranch from surrounding light, creating exceptional conditions for stargazing and, at times, the elusive Aurora.
Two complimentary nights of camping are included with your Day on the Ranch, allowing you to linger under the stars without driving anywhere. Heidi can point out constellations and offers an optional Aurora wake-up call for night owls and early risers alike.
